"When you invest in a girl's education, she feeds herself, her children, her community, and her nation".
- Eebs Solberg, Prime Minister of Norway.
Education plays an indispensable role in improving the lives of women by empowering them to take on life's challenges head-on. Imparting education to girls brings about socio-economic changes in society. It also brings women to be equally treated as men and have equal job opportunities. When a girl is educated it results in economic empowerment and prosperity. This is when the mindset of society starts to change giving a positive response in educating them rather than girls dropping out due to financial constraints and family objection.
One of our volunteer’s narrated a heart-warming story of a girl child named Jaymala who was filled with knowledge by Bharti Sangrahita Shiksha Vikas Sansthan from standard 1 to 12. She comes from a family that gives education great importance but cannot fulfill it due to financial constraints. Her father had come across an article mentioned in the daily newspaper that illustrated the good deeds done by our organization. Later on, he brought that cut out with hope in his heart to one of our events organized by the organization. He conveyed to us that he was moved by our initiative of providing education at the mere cost of 1 Rs. It was indeed a noble deed in his eyes. His daughter was a diligent and bright student who needed support to conquer her dreams and he requested us to give her the opportunity to study with us. His daughter surely got admission into our organization and the mere admiration towards the organization was incomparable. He was grateful to us for giving Jaymala the opportunity and was satisfied that her future was in safe hands. Jaymala strived to give her best, indeed a talented kid like her achieved great success.
We have come across hundreds of children like her who have the passion and talent to make a difference in the world but are held back because their families are unable to fulfill the financial requirements leaving their dreams shattered into pieces. Jaymala's father considered himself blessed when she received admission to our organization.
India has declared education as a fundamental right by ensuring constitutional provisions for providing free and compulsory education to all children without any discrimination between the ages of 6 and 14 years of age. This provision is named Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan.
Even after the government declared education as a fundamental right, the girl child still had obstacles in her way. What are the main obstacles being that families still believed in the myth that a girl child is a slow learner? Girls were considered as a liability or a financial burden on the family. We considered that money spent on education would be a waste, rather they would spend that money to marry her off later on and settle in another family. Education was given importance rather a girl's duty was first to complete the household chores.
Nonetheless, it is important to acknowledge the fact that educating a girl child is equivalent to educating the entire family which in return will help those families to come out of impoverished conditions. Education boosts the chances of getting jobs, resources, and skills and helps people from various backgrounds, therefore, acting as an equalizer. To stop the poverty cycle, girls who have been victims of poverty-stricken families must be able to access efficient primary education and should be made known to child welfare organizations so that they can access the help they need. In many societies today child marriage still prevails, which is the effect of various social and economic factors and has therefore become a part of social customs. When the girl child is married off at an early age it affects them in all aspects it makes them feel isolated and neglected. Some also may suffer from pregnancy and childbirth complications. At this age, girls are not ready emotionally and physically to be wives. On that account it is extremely important to provide education to the girl child so that they can continue to study and establish themselves in society and make a place for themselves, this will also increase economic growth and reduce income inequality.
Keeping all this in mind, Bharti Sangrahita Shiksha Vikas Sansthan was founded with the noble idea to provide education at the nominal fee of Rupees 1 to children who come from marginal communities of society. Our organization withholds the belief that our job is not to prepare girls for something instead to help them prepare themselves for anything that comes their way. Regarding this purpose, Bharti Sangrahita Introduced, an initiative named “PRAGYA” Which aims to empower girls from poverty-stricken families to pursue their education after the 12th standard, by providing them a scholarship fund that will help them to build their dreams. We aim to provide a vision for the future to all the girls who do not have much to do after school life and have to deal with a monotonous life.
Bharti Sangrahita Aims to provide education to girls who come from middle-class backward class government schools and are neglected by society. Our mission is to make higher education accessible to them with the help of scholarship funds So that they don't have to give up on their bright future. With this small initiative “PRAGYA” we want to bring about a small change in society especially in the life of girls belonging to different sections of society and help them establish themselves and tell the world that they are not only made to stay among the four walls of the house.
