Pehchan Award
In today’s world, people’s knowledge about history is limited to the wars and epic battles fought by the men to protect their nation, hence overlooking one important factor that shaped the history and making of a nation – The role played by the women in the society. Even in present date, the contribution of women in the functioning of society is overlooked, their importance is rather ignored and are often considered as an inferior gender. Even though their condition is much better from the past, women still have to go through countless struggles, and a lot of hardship to make their place in the society. In India and several other countries, women have to face several challenges, to avail basic education, to pursue higher studies, to become independent and financially stable. These conditions are faced mostly in rural areas because of poverty, lack of opportunity, conservative mindset of family and lack of recognition to the women in our society. But even after all the odds stacked against them, many women have overcome all the obstacles and have contributed hugely to the world in many different ways.
There are several women who could be set as an example to motivate students in schools and colleges to work hard, to overcome the challenges and contribute their part to the make the world a better place. We would take an example to understand the condition of women in rural India and how they overcome it. Sindhutai Sapkal was born in a small village in Maharashtra, she was forced to quit her education when she was 10 years old, and was forced to marry at an early age of 12. By the time she turned 20, she was a mother to 3 children. She was subjected to domestic violence and had to beg on railway station to survive. Similar conditions are faced by 1.5 million other girls living in rural India. Later, Sapkal went onto open an orphanage, which is currently home to 1500 abandoned children. She devoted her life to the children who were abandoned by their parents. She was honored by 900+ National and International awards including Padma Shree award for her work. Just like Sapkal, many women overcome these obstacles to become Independent and are now living with respect.
Our organization, Bharti Sangrahita Shiksha Vikas Sanstha, has helped many women to become self employed and live an independent life by utilizing their own skills. We believe in empowering women, specially those who are living in weaker section of the society, who do not have proper funds or tools but aspire to do something. And to further promote this practice, our organization is proud to announce the Pehchan Award. This award is given on The International Women’s day to women who have been through a lot of challenges, faced a lot of difficulties but still managed to come out on top and create an identity of their own. These women worked tirelessly to overcome the obstacles they faced in their lives and now can inspire the next generation to do the same. We would give them a platform to share their stories and motivate several women and students to help them achieve their goals. The awardees will interact with students to inspire them to face difficult situation in lives. We believe, this initiative will help several women in many different ways and change the way society treats the women.
